m1craft

m1craft

For both of you Apple Silicon Minecraft players out there, a gentleman by the name of Ezekiel Elin (ezfe on GitHub) has released m1craft which allows you to run Minecraft natively on M1 Macs.

While this is not the first time someone has managed to get Minecraft running natively, m1craft is incredibly simple to use. As per the readme:

This tool does not modify either the Minecraft JAR or LWJGL JARs. The Minecraft JAR is downloaded unmodified from Minecraft, and the LWJGL jars are pre-built 3.3.0 directly from lwjgl.org

Previous attempts to do this have required slightly more manual configuration. I have tested m1craft and it worked flawlessly. I haven’t tested extensively, so I won’t say that the performance was so different from the Rosetta version (which is surprisingly good). But it’s great to see this is possible since it seems unlikely that the Mac will ever be a priority for Mojang.
